Brown Sugar Pound Cake

Brown Sugar Pound Cake

1 lb. light brown sugar
1/2 c. white sugar
1-1/2 c. shortening (part butter)
5 egg yolks, well beaten
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. sweet milk
1 c. nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
5 egg whites, stiffly beaten

QUICK CARAMEL ICING
1 box light
brown sugar
3 tbsp. flour or cornstarch
6 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. milk

Cream shortening. Add brown and white sugars and cream again. Stir with beaten eggs yolks. Sift flour with the 1/2 teaspoon baking powder and add alternately with milk. Add nuts and vanilla and lastly, fold in well beaten egg whites. Bake in greased and floured loaf or Sten pan for 1 1/2 hours at 325 degrees. Take off and let cool. Add 2 teaspoons vanilla. Beat until thick.
