For Joyce in TX
regarding her grandson's wedding.
Why not put together a notebook of all his favorite recipes
of things you used to make for him.
Or get one of those large picture frames with the various
size cut-outs and put in pics of him when he was young, as
well as other members of the family, especially a pic of
you.
Maybe something you've had for years that you would like to
pass on to him. I "gave" my grandson my grandmother's
rocking chair when he was born. He's still only ten, but
when he eventually gets his own place, the chair will be
there.
Grandchildren don't want fancy gifts from grandparents, they
want treasured memories.

Hello all in Nancyland,
I'm looking for a clone or TNT recipe for the
cheese bread they serve at "Black
Angus Steak House" My DH had some, but I didn't taste
it, so have no idea what could be in it. He really liked it
and I would like to try to make some at home for him. Any
help would be appreciated.
Nancy you sound like one busy lady. So happy you found time
for us with the newsletter. Don't know what I would do
without it. Hugs for you and pats for the cats. Everybody
have a great tomorrow. Betty in Whittier.
Nancy,
I bought a used pasta maker off
of shopgoodwill.com and once I got the box open I see there
isi no instructions. Would you or any of the readers be able
to help me out with it? It is a pasta perfect made by
gourmet royale, model number PM-700. It says it makes a
pound and a half of pasta. It's electric and I don't know
where to begin, this is a new venture for me and I am hoping
for help so I can play with my new toy!! Thank you before
hand and I hope someone can help!!

This is for
Darlene-Lafayette, IN. asking about keeping
ants out of hummingbird feeders
June 11, Pg.2. My hummingbird feeder came with a plastic
piece like a little cup to hang above the feeder. In the
plastic piece you put Vaseline. This keeps the ants out of
my feeders. I hope this helps.

Hi Nancy!
To the reader who asked for ant remedies, use fresh
mint! Perhaps the reader with
all the mint can send some to the one who needs it?

What exactly is heavy

Hey everyone!
I hope someone out there can help me. My oldest son is
coming home on leave from the Navy next month and I need a
reliable sourdough starter and bread recipe. He loves
sourdough bread and I have not been able to find a recipe
that really works. I want to make our 12 days the best
possible. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for a Navy
themed party? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is for Joyce in TX,
who is searching for the perfect wedding present for her
grandson and his wife. Although we were very appreciative of
all our wedding gifts, several relatives gave us unique
picture frames to us in many different sizes. They gave them
to us to help us remember the many special times that they
knew we would have in our marriage. We still comment on who
gave us the gifts, when visitors comment on our family
pictures and the beautiful frames.

This is for Pat in South
Florida - in the Monday, June 12 newsletter you mentioned
the Barbecue Chicken Sandwich Ring with black olives. That
sounds so good, will you post it please?
Where in Florida are you? I just moved from North Port (90
miles S. of Tampa 2 years ago and returned to S. Calif.) I
miss Florida so much. I loved Capersen and Venice Beaches!!!

Thanks Merry for telling

For the lady with the
ant problem in the house:
There is a product on the market called TERRO Ant Poison.
It's for sweet eating ants. It's made by Senoret Chemical
Co., Inc. You put a small amount on a piece of wax paper or
in a bottle cap and place it where the heaviest amount of
ant traffic is. Keep out of areas where it would be
accessible to pets or children.
For grease eating ants, add a few drops of cooking oil to
the poison and mix well.
For the lady with the problem with ants in the Hummingbird
feeder.
My Hummingbird feeder hangs on
a Shepherds Crook,
I took a plastic cap off a spray paint can and put 2 holes
in it, 1 across from the other near the top. I attached a
small length of wire. Attach the wire in the one hole and
loop it across to the other side and attach., Run a longer
length of wire, Hook into the same holes at the top and let
it hang down below the cap.
I hung the shorter loop of wire on my shepherds crook and
hung the Hummingbird feeder on the longer loop of wire below
the cap. Fill the plastic cap with water. The ants WILL NOT
cross the water, but the cap needs to be refilled when the
water gets low.
It worked for me......Hope it works for you.
Karen from Wisconsin
in response to Darlene
of Indiana's request in June 11th newsletter for a way to
keep ants out of hummingbirds feeders.
I have the same problem. I just rub cooking oil on the
outside of the feeder and it keeps the ants off. you repeat
after each filling and cleaning.

This is for Laurie in
Fruitport, MI (and other as well if they have an answer).
You said that Hydrogen Peroxide
is good for blood stains. Is it safe for sheets as well?
Won't the peroxide eat at the threads of the sheets? I have
Italian sheets (600 thread count) with small little blood
stains and am dying to get them out. I want to use something
TNT and safe. I did try the 'use your own salvia' experiment
and it did NOT work. I think the salvia only works when the
blood stain is fresh, not old.
Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!

Question for Jocelyn in
Quebec: On the Sourdough Starter
after you take out your 1 cup to keep do you wait until
you're ready for more bread or immediately start all over
with the day 1-2-3-4 etc? I have a Friendship cake started
that I keep and when I need to start the cakes just take
enough out to start the 30 day process (I add sugar to my
started to keep it going). Is this the same principle?
Also, you say NOT
This hint is for Darline-Lafayette,
IN. about ants & hummingbird feeders.
When we had our summer home in Ontario I had 3 feeders hung
in various places. I put Vick's Vapor Rub on the wire
hanging the feeder plus spread it around the holes. This
kept the hornets & bees out of the feeder but since the
hummingbirds can't smell it didn't affect them. We now live
in Naples, FL and we have no hummingbirds here, I do miss
them. Muriel-Naples,FL
Nancy, - Gee - I'm like
everyone else. . . .looking forward to your news letter. . .
. Hope your and your 'best buds' are doing great. This note
is in response to Joyce in TX in the 6/11 - page 2
newsletter.
Joyce, If they have not previously 'set up'
housekeeping and already
acquired all the gadget 'in the world' - - - go thru your
kitchen and see the things that you use the most, i.e. can
opener, ice pick (this is something no one ever thinks
about), favorite size spatula, favorite size cutting board,
garlic press, etc. of the gadgets that you use most often in
your own kitchen and then go to the store and purchase a
waste basket (kitchen size or a smaller one if you know
colors) and 'fill 'with the 'most used ', favorite gadgets
and cup towels or had towels. (As you know, no kitchen has
enought hand or cup towels.) You know, the kind of things
you had to go to the store and buy when you first got
married. You could also add in dishwasher detergent, liquid
detergent, pan scrubber, or even make up a basket with items
for the bath, i.e. bath soaps, bubbles (the bride would love
this), bath oils, shaving creams, disposable razors, . .
just let your imagination have fun. THEN PUT A BIG BOW ON
IT. . . . I have done this any number of times and the
couple seems to appreciate it.

Pat in South Florida: I
am one of those Pampered Chef representatives who cooks.
Simply leave out the olives; one small can of olives will
make no difference in the final outcome (although, since I
like olives I would find it not nearly as good!). Or perhaps
you could add the same amount (about 1/4 c.) of Ranch Style
Beans. I'm glad you liked the recipe; I've never made
anything from a Pampered Chef cookbook that didn't get raves
- I have all the cookbooks, including the older ones. My
daughter-in-law wasn't particularly interested in cooking
until I started selling Pampered Chef several months ago.
She finds the recipes easy and - in her words - not
intimidating, so now she's trying new recipes and loving it.
Concerning the hint in Monday's newsletter about the
vinegar/water solution on the computer
screen: DO NOT use this mixture on a LCD or other
non-glass monitor. If the screen moves or "ripples" when you
GENTLY touch it with your fingernail, do not use any
chemicals on it! You can, however, buy a commercial product
that is disposable cloths saturated in a special cleaner for
these screens.

Nancy, this is for
Phyllis in Phoenix who wrote in the newsletter of the 9th, I
believe, that she cannot seem to keep her tile
floors from streaking. I clean
houses and have run upon that same problem but have found a
great solution... I purchased one of those flat mops with
the microfiber mopping pads from QVC and I keep a spray
bottle with 3/4 alcohol and 1/4 water in my cleaning
supplies....I wet the pad, spray the floor with the alcohol
solution and mop away....It not only stops the streaks but
it dries so fast and is a deodorizer and disinfectant to
boot... Do hope this works for you, Phyllis, as it has
really done well for me.. I even use the same process on my
laminate wood floors with great results. I am never without
alcohol and white vinegar in my cleaning supplies as they
are both so useful.
Good luck with this hint.

To keep ants out of the hummingbird
feeder, try putting cooking oil on the cord you are
hanging the feeder from. Double faced tape might help too,
but you have to change it often. It gets full of ants.

For Darlene in

The only way we found to keep ants out
of our hummingbird feeders was to GLOB Vaseline on
the hanger for several inches. Got a big jar at the dollar
store, really globbed it on and that worked for us.
