Sweet Potatoes !!!!
I recently sent for an offer that I found on the internet........what a wealth of wonderful recipes. Email your request to the North Carolina Sweet Potato Commission at ncsweetsue@aol.com. This office will send you a great selection of recipes and probably could answer the question of why a cooked sweet potato would turn black.

Someone asked for the crockpot beef stew recipe that had ginger ale in it. It's in the Oct. 11th newsletter, but I included it below. I made this stew and took to a lady from church who had a detached retina and couldn't cook. She said it was very good and her husband liked it too. It's a little different from what I usually make, and more like a stew you would get at a buffet (in my opinion).

Thanks to those who warned me about using the crockpot dish on a gas stove. I was pretty sure it wouldn't be a good idea, but I was hoping. I usually brown the meat in a skillet or large pan before putting in the crockpot. Always looking for an easier way, but sure wouldn't want a mess all over the kitchen. LOL

Crock pot Stew (from the Pittsburgh Press years ago)
2 pounds of stew meat or round steak, cubed
4-6 medium potatoes, cubed
4-6 carrots, cubed
1 large onion, sliced
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup
1 can gingerale
1 packet Onion soup mix

Add all ingredients to crock pot and and cook on low 8-10 hours.
Enjoy! Another Janet from PA

Also, I'm glad someone explained about the "crib set". I was really wondering what that would be. :) Doris, S. Indiana

HI!! Here is a Ginger ale Beef stew ( June 14th newsletter ) for Jill in Louisiana where I vacationed far away from my home for the first time as a young mother and... adored it! :)) I don't know if it comes from this site but it was in my files..:)) Jocelyne in Québec

Crockpot Ginger Ale Beef Stew Recipe
4 lb stew beef, cut into small pieces

Talking about fish, here's the simplest tastiest fish recipe I have.

Hope the ingredients are available in the US, if the French dressing isn't available any favourite dressing would probably do.
Bob in Adelaide South Australia

TANGY CRUMBED FISH
1 lb (4) fish fillets
½ cup Kraft French dressing
1 cup Kelloggs cornflake crumbs

Dip fish fillets into dressing. Coat in crumbs. Place fillets on a roasting rack, making sure thickest part is placed on outside of rack. Microwave for 5 to 7 minutes on HIGH or until fish flakes easily.
Serves 4

Sara, on June 14th, wants to know why bagels are not cut all the way through when you buy them. On the food channel I saw bagels being made. They cannot be sliced all the way through or the two halves would come apart going through the machine.

This is in response to the June 8th newsletter for Jackie Spencer from Ohio with the cat urine odor problem. There is a product over at Sam's Club called OdoBan which will eliminate pet odors. We used it when we moved into my inlaws old home. They had big dogs which used the basement as their bathroom. It smelled awful in here and I thought nothing would ever remove the smell. Plus my mother in law smoked. It banished all the bad odors in here. There is also another product called Zero Odor which I ordered online. The website is ZeroOdorStore.com. I also have a 17 year old cat with bladder problems, because her kidneys are starting to fail her. Hope this information will help you. Paula from Ohio

Here is another treatment for ants, especially those that you find in the kitchen. Mix some boric acid crystals( available at your local drug store) in a bit of honey and place drops of this mixture in the route that you see the ants travel. They suck this stuff up and haul it back to the nest, kills the colony. Be sure, like anything like this concoction, place in areas where your pets can't get to it.
Jane, CA.
