This is for Beth in PA who has smelly scarves. Try putting
some white vinegar in your rinse cycle, and then hang them
out in the sun. You could even hang them out when it is
raining and let them hang until it stops and they are dry.
To the lady from Texas that was talking about the "cow
patties" What were they made out of. I would like to hear
more about this. You can find me at craftymom_68@yahoo.com.
Did you base your reunion on this idea? Was your menu for
the reunion a Western theme? If it was what kind of foods
were brought. That sounds like a fun idea. Thanks for all
your hard work Nancy. I am glad that you let us all connect
this way. There is always so many topics to talk about. Your
newsletters helps us connect in many different ways. I love
recipes. I am also a recipe aholic. I have all kinds and
mean to use some of them but always seem to go back to the
same old thing. Take care all and give your associates a pat
on the head for me.

Anita S., I found this recipe at
www.cooks.com . It is the
rhubarb recipe made with strawberry jello. I think I'll give
it a whirl too.
STRAWBERRY RHUBARB CRISP
2 lb. fresh rhubarb
1 (3 oz.) pkg. strawberry Jello
1/2 c. unsifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 c. butter
Wash rhubarb, cut off and discard leaves. Cut stalks into
3/4 inch pieces. You will need 5 cups of diced rhubarb.
Arrange rhubarb in greased 8 inch square glass pan. Sprinkle
with strawberry Jello.
Combine flour, sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon in bowl. Melt
butter in small saucepan over medium heat. Stir butter into
flour mixture and mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over rhubarb.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes or until rhubarb is
tender. Let stand 30 minutes before serving. Serve warm with
vanilla ice cream.

This is for Phyllis who is trying to get cookies out of her
cake mix. All the cookie recipes made with cake mixes that I
have ever seen, never use the directions on the cake mix
box. The dry cake mix is mixed in with the remaining
ingredients. In the recipe you are trying to make, you mix
the dry spice cake mix and the pumpkin together. If there
were any other ingredients, you mix them in. This usually
just requires a spoon and not a mixer.
Here is a cake mix recipe I made today from a lemon cake
mix. I got it from the
www.Allrecipe.com website. You mix one
package of lemon cake mix (I used Betty Crocker) with one
egg (slightly beaten), 1/2 cup of melted butter or margarine
(I used margarine) and a cup of dry Rice Krispies. Just stir
it all together with a spoon and make into one inch balls.
Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and press down with
fingers to flatten. (The recipe said to just press down with
thumb, but I flattened them some with first three fingers).
You bake for 9 or 10 minutes at 350°, until the edges start
turning a light brown. Cool on the sheet for one minute,
before removing to a rack. They have a good lemon flavor and
a bit of a crispness because of the Rice Krispies. It makes
about 48 cookies. They would be good for anytime, but I
couldn't help but think they would make a nice little tea
cookie.

To Lisa who requested the Blueberry Cake recipe. I sent this
recipe in last year in June. I am so glad you like it. I
have been making this one for years, and it is always a hit.
You are lucky I just happen to have a copy of this in my
desk at work (where I email from) because I moved a couple
of weeks ago into a new house, and my recipes are all still
in boxes in the garage. So, here is my TNT recipe for
Blueberry Cake.
From Merry M in MN
Fresh Blueberry Cake
1 package yellow cake mix (without added pudding in mix)
1-4 oz. package instant lemon pudding mix
1 cup sour cream
1/3 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs
1/2 cup water
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 12 cup Bundt pan or
a 9x13 pan.
Mix all ingredients together and beat for 4 minutes.
Gently fold in 1 cup fresh blueberries. Pour into prepared
pan, and bake for 40 – 50 minutes for Bundt, or 25 – 30
minutes for 9x13, or until center tests done.
If using a Bundt pan, let cake cool in pan 10 minutes before
removing. I just leave the cake in the 9x13 pan. This cake
needs no frosting, it is so moist and delicious,
but you can dust with confectioners’ sugar if desired.
Hi all, thanks to all of you who sent in the answer to my
question about corn relish/salad. I have another question
for you now. When a recipe calls for white wine or red wine,
what kind of wine do you use? There are sweet to tart
varieties of each and I would think that they all would
impart a different flavor.
Carolyn in Los Banos
Thanks Penny for the Dill Dip recipe. I will definitely try
it. Any more Dill Dip recipes or Cheesy Beer Bread recipes
would be great.
Thanks everyone!

on what to get my grandson that just got married. I want to
get them something that they will remember us with. I know
all the ladies here have great ideas. No guilts ( don't sew

To stop the printer, I just turn the switch off---that stops
the printing. Then go to the lower right side of your
screen, see the picture of a printer? Click on it. At the
screen which comes up click on Documents, then delete all
print jobs. It sometimes takes a few seconds to delete, but
after the job is deleted, you can go back to the newsletter
and re-mark what you want to print, click on SELECTION, then
OK. This should save you paper, ink and aggravation of
printing a lot of what you do not need.

For Norma in PA looking for Conway Diet recipe for Zippy
Zero Dressing (June 4)
I pulled out my old book and couldn't believe it was so old
(1976). My mom and I went to Conway classes. She and my dad
lost tons of weight on this. I lost some- but was young at
the time and hated to make all the stuff from scratch.
Looked at the progress chart at the back and wish I were
that (starting) size NOW. LOL. I had forgotten a lot of the
great recipes in here- may have to try this program again,
now that I will cook. Anyway here's the recipe-enjoy.
Zippy Zero Salad Dressing-( Conway Diet Program )
3 cups tomato juice
3/4 cup cider vinegar
1 T. Horseradish
1 T. onion flakes
1 T. red or green pepper flakes
1 T. parsley flakes
Dash of sweetener
1 clove garlic
May add as desired
Cloves
Allspice
Dry mustard
Garlic Powder
Bay leaf
Hot pepper sauce
Oregano
Worcestershire Sauce
Mix desired ingredients in a quart jar. Store in fridge and
use on salads, in cooking, etc. Aging seems to improve the
flavor and thicken it., so if you make 2 quarts at a time,
one will have the opportunity to age. Also, this will use
one large (46 oz.) can of tomato juice.

This is for CC who wanted to know what tearoom I ran in
Longview, Texas...It was in the 80"s and the name of it was
"A Little Bit Country" and it was on Judson road on the
North side of the Loop. I loved cooking there and the
customers were all so sweet...It was a fun thing to do and I
hated it when it went out of business.....Pour money
management on the part of the owner I'm afraid....Hope you
have good luck with the recipe for Buttermilk Chess Pie that
I sent...it is very good.

To all those who are asking questions about
Rhubarb.
My Grandmother,and as I am already 85
you might figure how old this hint is, explained to me that
by allowing cut rhubarb to stand in boiling water for 3
minutes, then draining well, the sharp acidulous taste would
be removed. This is true, as far as I am concerned. It
doesn't take as much sugar to sweeten the stems, and tastes
so much better, Do try this !!

Denny (June 5,2006 newsletter) requested recipes for his
fiancee's cholesterol problem. My husband was diagnosed with
a cholesterol problem about 10 years ago. His doctor
recommended a low fat diet. He was also put on medication
for the problem. His cholesterol levels are great now. Just
make sure he is seen by a doctor here and his levels
monitored. I read labels, have healthy low fat snacks around
and cook a lot of low fat meals. My rule of thumb is if the
item has more than 5 grams of fat a serving in it, I don't
buy it. I try not to exceed 25 grams of fat a day. Of course
there are times when that is exceeded but the next day we
are back on . The magazine, Cooking Light was a great help
to me in the beginning. I got a lot of wonderful recipes and
learned a lot about cooking low fat. I will send you some
favorite recipes if you would like.
