For Jackie:
I don't have a recipe for raspberry angel food cake but you might try modifying the following recipe. Replace the honey with 2/3 cup seedless raspberry jam. (If you can't find it in the grocery store, we have it on our site.) Replace the orange zest with raspberry flavor or liquor. I'm a real fan of almond with raspberry so I might add 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. If you would like a more pinkish cake, add a drop of food coloring.

Here's a link for "how to" tips for making an angel food cake:

Tupelo Honey Angel Food Cake

What a nice twist on an angel food cake! This angel food cake is sweetened with honey, has a touch of orange, and is lightly spiced with sweet cinnamon and nutmeg. Load it up with whipped cream and sliced bananas or strawberries and you’ll have a wonderful dessert.

This recipe adds a bit of spices, orange zest, and honey to a basic angel food cake for a wonderful change of pace.

1-1/4 cups all-purpose or cake flour
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

14 large egg whites
1/2 tablespoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup honey
2/3 cups granulated sugar

2 tablespoons fresh orange zest

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

1. In a medium bowl, sift the flour, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg together. Set aside.
2. Beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar on medium speed until soft peaks form. Add the salt. With the mixer on low speed, gradually drizzle the honey into the egg whites. Gradually pour the granulated sugar into the egg whites with the mixer running.
3. Sift about 1/3 of the flour mixture over the egg whites. Sprinkle the zest over the flour. With a spatula, gently fold the flour into the egg whites disturbing the fragile structure of the egg whites as little as possible. Repeat the process with the other 2/3’s of the flour mixture in two stages.
4. Gently scrape the batter into an ungreased tube pan. (A greased pan will cause the cake to collapse.) Bake for 40 minutes at 350 degrees or until done.
5. Immediately invert the pan and let cool. When the cake is nearly cool, use a knife or metal spatula to loosen the cake from the sides of the pan and remove it. Serve with whipped cream and sliced bananas (or other fruit).

Lois in Kingston, WA asked about a garlic cheese roll that she used to buy, and I also have been trying to find it. I have a recipe for CHEESE GRITS which calls for garlic cheese, but I have not made it because I can't find the garlic cheese.

This is for Nancy in Central Virginia (the Rice-Diet-Woman): I am fairly certain that Whole Foods sells the type of pasta you are looking for. To see if there is a store in your area go to www.WholeFoods.com .

This is for Leslie in TX, I own a Pampered Chef stoneware pizza pan, and I use it a lot! The stone like all stoneware should be seasoned. The best way that I found to do this, is to take bacon and lay it on the stone, and bake it in the oven at 350 the fat from the bacon does a fantastic job in seasoning it, also try using crescent rolls, they have a high butter fat content to do the same thing. Whatever you do never use cooking spray on it, it tends to leave a gummy residue on the stones. Another tip is to NEVER use soap on your stoneware, only use warm water and a Pampered Chef scraper. The soap tends to flavor the stone with that lovely soap taste. I highly recommend using their scrapers, they are the best tool to have in the kitchen, you can clean almost everything with it, I have used them to even take down wall paper, my director from PC told me a while a back about doing the wall paper with it and I didn’t believe her, but tried it and I could not get over it, it worked!

Here is a moist banana bread recipe.

Banana Bread
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tablespoon oil
4 bananas, not too ripe
1 tablespoon milk
2 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Cream shortening and sugar. Add oil and eggs one at a time. Beat in bananas and milk. Gradually add flour, soda and salt.
Stir in nuts. Grease 9x5x3 pan. Bake at 325 for 65-70 minutes.* Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan. This rises very good.

*Cover with foil part of baking time. Doubled makes 8 mini pans. Cover with foil 25 minutes and uncovered 15 - 20 minutes.

I do not use overripe bananas- just ripe bananas. Make sure to not overcook the bread as it will continue cooking in the pan.
Enjoy. Vickie P. Batavia,NY

This is for Jackie Spencer in Ohio, I was just reading some emails on my freecycle's bulletin board and ladies were talking about getting out cat urine. Some mentioned Pouring peroxide on it, letting it soak in then blot. Some mention nature's miracle that is sold in the pet stores. But they said the applications must be repeated. Here is what someone wrote.

Hydrogen peroxide is one of the best anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal agents around. Its chemical designation is H2O2, which means two hydrogen atoms attached to two oxygen atoms. It breaks down into H2O (water), and O1, which is an unstable oxygen free radical scavenger that gloms onto anything it can -- such as microbes, toxic chemicals, etc.

Some farmers know the trick of spraying H2O2 onto seeds to make them sprout more quickly. When I'm soaking mung beans for sprouting, I add some hydrogen peroxide to the soaking water, which makes them sprout more quickly.

The stuff you buy in drug stores contains preservatives. But you can get pure, food grade H2O2 from health food stores and on the Internet. The typical dilution is 3%. Anything higher can burn the skin. However, if you're careful when mixing it, getting it in stronger dilutions (like 35%) can save you money.

Hydrogen peroxide has long been used in computer "clean rooms" to clean computer chips and other components. I use it as a mouthwash, veggie wash, to sterilize my sponges and cutting boards, for bathing, deodorant, and more. It's great stuff. Nice to know it works on cat pee, too. That I didn't know.

They also talked about ODO-BAN a product they sell at Sam's Club.

Removing Pet Urine Smells
Cat Urinating In The Home

How to remove the smell of cat urine out of my rug, it... - Q&A

They also talked about using vinegar, maybe the above links can help also.

This is for Jackie Spenser, in Ohio. In the June 8th letter you asked about a solution for a cat odor problem.

We had something similar, but it was our dining room carpet and the wood floor underneath. I called a carpet cleaning service, who recommended the following procedure. I think that it should work on your cement floor.

Obtain a can of Kliz at your local home improvement center as well as a can of white (clear) shellac. Apply the Kliz, wait for it to dry. Two coats might be better, making sure that you are pass the damaged area, This product kills the odor, and the white shellac seals the entire area, so the odor does not sneak back.

You could check with your local pet supply for a product that they may have, but since cement is so porous you might have a continuing problem without sealing the floor.

One point that I would like to raise, has your cement floor been sealed (painted)? If not you might consider that option after treating the soiled area. The info. I had been given, was until you get rid of that odor the cat could continue to go back to that spot and urinate again. I hope that this helps and you get the problem cared for. My cat cost me over $700 as I had to re-carpet my dining room, including the pad.
Jane, Shingletown, CA.

In response to Jackie Spencer, Ohio. Cat litter box odor. I have placed a small bowl of vinegar in close proximity and the odor went away. The vinegar will evaporate over time. If needed, just replenish.
Harvey ,Pennsylvania

This is not about food ,but does anyone have a method to get rid of those pesky ants?
